The Presidency, through the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), has named the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) as one of the top five best-performing Federal Government agencies for 2025 in the Transparency and Efficiency category.

The NCC received the recognition alongside the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, which emerged as the overall best-performing agency. Other agencies recognised include the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), which ranked second, as well as the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Ports Authority.

The honour was announced at the PEBEC Awards and Gala Night held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. Speaking at the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima commended the leadership and staff of the recognised institutions for their commitment to public service. He noted that collaboration across ministries, departments and agencies, as well as across states and sectors, remains critical to national progress.

According to him, the awards celebrate transparency and efficiency within Nigeria’s public service, while also reflecting the Federal Government’s commitment to building a more competitive and effective public sector. He added that PEBEC has continued to champion reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business, strengthening investor confidence, and ensuring that public institutions contribute meaningfully to national economic growth.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Commission, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and regulatory excellence. He described the recognition as both an affirmation of the NCC’s values and a responsibility to deepen its service to Nigerians.

Dr. Maida stated that the Commission’s mandate as an economic regulator is to create an enabling environment where telecommunications operators can thrive, attract investment, and sustain healthy competition, while ensuring that consumers enjoy quality services and diverse choices. He assured Nigerians that the NCC would continue to strengthen its regulatory frameworks and collaborations with stakeholders to further improve service delivery and industry performance.

Also speaking at the event, the Director-General of PEBEC, Zahrah Mustapha-Audu, explained that the awards were organised to recognise reform champions and highlight progress made in improving Nigeria’s business environment. She described the ceremony as a celebration of excellence in public service delivery and a reflection of the government’s resolve to make Nigeria a competitive and predictable destination for business in Africa.

She added that under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and the chairmanship of Vice President Kashim Shettima, PEBEC’s reform efforts have been guided by accountability, data-driven strategies, and a commitment to strengthening government frameworks in support of business growth.
