The Ibadan Progressive Union (IPU) has expressed sadness over the passing of Chief AbdulRasheed Lekan Alabi, the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, a veteran journalist, cultural ambassador and passionate defender of Ibadan’s history, traditions, and heritage.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Publicity Secretary of IPU, Alhaji Wale Rufai, the Union said a great tree has fallen in Ibadan. The statement described Oloye Lekan Alabi as an Ibadan son who lived a life dedicated to the service and promotion of Ibadanland.

“His love for our heritage was exceptional, and through his journalism, public service, writings, and cultural advocacy, he contributed immensely to preserving the identity and history of the ancient city.

“His life honoured Ibadan. His legacy will continue to speak for him.” The statement read.

The Ibadan Progressive Union commiserates with the Olubadan-in-Council, the immediate family, associates, friends, the media community, and all sons and daughters of Ibadanland over this monumental loss.

“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest, and give strength and comfort to everyone mourning his departure.” The union stated.
