Former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has blamed the federal government for the rise in agitation for self-determination by various tribes across the country, stressing that the Buhari-led government created both Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu.

On Tuesday, Nigerians woke up to news of the arrest of the the popular Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho in Benin Republic while trying to board a plane to Germany.

The Òsì-Olubadan of Ibadanland recalled that on many occasions, many highly-placed personalities, including the Aláàfin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III had lamented that whenever criminals of Fulani extraction are arrested for one crime or the other, there is always order from above to release them.

He said the Igangan massacre and government’s nonchalant attitude gave people like Sunday Igboho to resort to self help, as virtually nobody was arrested for the murder of Dr. Aborode,  another woman and successive murders in Igangan.

Ladoja said if the issue is not properly addressed, the arrest of Sunday Igboho, the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu and any other advocate of self-determination will not solve the problems as many Igbohos and Kanus will rise up.

The Ibadan High Chief expression optimism that Nigeria will continue to survive despite the present predicament, adding that the agitation is so much and it has never been like that. He however warned that if the federal government does not handle the cases of both Kanu and Igboho with caution, it might boomerang to many Igbohos and Kanus as both are leaders to some people.

He called for declaration of amnesty for both Kanu and Igboho just like the government gave amnesty for repentant Boko Haram members.

“I just want the federal government to know that as they are declaring amnesty for Boko Haram, they should also declare amnesty for them too.” Ladoja said.

He said people are agitating for what they believe in while describing both Igboho and Kanu as victims of conscience, stressing that they should not be treated like mere criminals.

The former governor stressed that nobody knows what will happen to Igboho, but charged federal government to tread with caution so as not to create more agitators. He frowned at nonchalant attitude of the president, who, according to him, turns deaf ears to all agitations.
