Westmidlands Communications, owner of SplashFM and LageluFM, on Tuesday, unveiled a media academy to groom interested minds on requisite skills and professional competence in accordance with norms in the media space.

During a press briefing at the institute which is located adjacent to White House, Felele Ibadan, the General Manager in charge of Operations, Mr. Tunde Olawuwo, who unveiled the broadcast academy to the West Midland Communications brand, stressed that the SplashFm Media Academy would partner with critical stakeholders in contributing its quota to standard media practices and preserving media integrity.
He said that the Academy will be committed to playing significant roles in ensuring dexterity, professionalism, capacity building as well as integrity within the media space, and train both young and old who have passion for broadcasting and other technical vocation within the media sphere
Unveiling the media academy, Olawuwo explained that the academy would offer a 6-week course cutting across journalism, new media, programming, content development as well as presentation, noting that the objective was not to make a profit but to contribute in raising the bar of professionalism and standard in the media.
He also emphasized that the academy would be affiliated to the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, Department of Mass Communication, Polytechnic Ibadan as well as other critical stakeholders while acknowledging the founder of West Midland Communications, High Chief Adebayo Akande, the Abese-Olubadan of Ibadanland for always showing a young receptive mind for innovations.
In his remark at the briefing, Oyo State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Ademola Babalola described the unveiling of  Splash FM Broadcast Academy as a watershed, stressing that there is need for more professionalism in the media space, while urging the management of the academy to do due diligence on course accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Also, the Director of West Midland Communications, Bayo Akande (Jnr.) said Nigeria has got a lot of untapped talents and potentials, and the SplashFm Broadcast Academy would assist many of its students in unbundling their talents in the media industry.
Equally, the Oyo State Chairman of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), Seun Awodele, Publisher of Parrot Magazine, Yinka Agboola amongst OTHERS prominent personalities in media industry, in their various goodwill messages commended the management of West Midland Communications for the desire to support media excellence.
