The Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced plans to recruit additional personnel into the Nigeria Police Force to address the ongoing issue of manpower shortage within the Police Force.

The IGP made this known in his address at a three-day retreat organized by the Committee of Retired Inspectors General of Police at the IITA in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The three day retreat organized for the Retired Inspectors-General of Police gave them the opportunities to exchange ideas among the retired Police officers and the Serving Police, towards repositioning the Nigeria Police

While outlining the various strategies implemented for the police force in his address, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the funding difficulties have shown notable improvement and are expected to continue progressing rapidly, with the support of the present administration.

He announced the establishment of a Special Intervention Squad within the Nigeria Police Force, that would revitalize the Police Mobile Force and other units to enhance its role in performing additional security tasks.

He also assured of the Nigeria Police readiness to float a special rapid squad that would protect and respond to distress calls from public schools against kidnapping.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman Committee of Retired Inspector- General of Police, IGP Aliyu Attah, who was represented by IGP Solomon Aranse (rtd), appreciated the Governor of Oyo State, who fully sponsored the hosting of the retreat.

He added that the retreat has provided a platform to harness collective wisdom and expertise as retired IGPs, to move the NPF forward.

In his lecture titled “Simple Analysis of the Statutory duties of the Nigeria Police”, a retired Police Officer, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, who noted that the primary duties of police is protection and promotion of human rights, called for recruitment of more police personnel and strengthen the divisional Police Headquarters.

In their various reactions at the end of the programme, IGP Sunday Ehindero RTD, and IGP Ogbonaya Onovo RTD, said that the programme was fruitful and expressed optimism that the recommendations would go a long way in tackling the security challenges of the Nation.
