The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi Prof Saadatu Hassan Liman says the institution remains highly committed to every form of partnership, capable of enhancing the global visibility of the institution.

Prof Saadatu stated this in Keffi, during the formal opening of a two- day Professional Scholarship Summer Course organized by RUDN University in partnership with the department of Journalism, Faculty of communication and Media Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK).

The course, with themes – implementing ethical AI in academic research and writing, as well as entrepreneural journalism is aimed at equipping Postgraduate students with skills and technical know- to navigate the delicate balance of Artificial intelligence within the intellectual community.

The Vice Chancellor, who was represented at the event by DVC Research Innovation and International Linkages Prof K’tso Nghargbu, noted that the institution attached tremendous importance to the engagement, not only because it is being organized free of charge but because it will shape research engagements, as well as preventing scholars from becoming academic thieves.

The VC stressed that the workshop on AI and academic research and writing will upscale established and emerging scholars not to replace diligence with laziness.

Prof Saadatu Hassan noted that “It is important to belong to consortium of institutions, which propelled patronages and partnership.”

She expressed optimism that robust association with globally visible institutions like RUDN would be sustained to develop curriculum in AI utilization, with African ethical principles integrated into the use.

Associate Prof Jamiu Mustapha, who is the team lead from the Moscow based University, emphasized that Artificial intelligence has come to stay, however, when and how it is used determine its ethical compliance.

According to him “the core principles of AI in academic writing and its ethical dilemmas include academic integrity, transparency and disclosure, human oversight and accountability as well as verification and accuracy.”

He cautioned emerging scholars against hallucination, being one of the serious issues of Generative AI.

Deans Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Prof Rabiu Muhammad, his counterpart from faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Yahaya Adadu as well as Associate Professor Santas Tsegyu, the acting head of Department of Journalism and Media Studies NSUK who coordinated the collaboration noted that being members of the global community, it is imperative for scholars to learn the good use of it.

The RUDN Scholarship in Africa commenced in year 2023, this year’s will cover eleven universities across the country with different themes.
