Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State on Tuesday said that the whereabouts of not less than ten percent of of the indigene of the state are not known as a result of the insurgency.
The governor also said that over one hundred thousand indigenes of the state have been killed since the outbreak of the insurgency.
Governor Zulum stated this while briefing State House Correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The governor, who said he discussed the report of the surrendering of Boko Haram insurgents with the President, further said that he did not see any reason why those who surrendered should be rejected.
According to him, already 2,600 bandits including their wives and children have already surrendered.
He said among those that surrendered were innocent people who were forcefully conscripted to join the Boko Haram sect, while some are teenagers.
While declaring his total support for the insurgents that have surrendered, he said the Borno State Government was not contemplating to give the repentant terrorists any dime for them to surrender.
The governor, who said that he had been attacked by the insurgents for about 50 times, also promised to support the victims of the insurgents whose parents were killed.
