Youths from Igangan in Ibarapa zone of Oyo State on Tuesday stormed Governor Seyi Makinde’s Office, calling for an end to herdsmen killings in their area.
The youths, during the peaceful protest to the State Government Secretariat in Ibadan, also demanded immediate implementation of the state’s anti-grazing law, closure of Kara cattle market in Igangan, and immediate deployment of Amotekun Corps members into the forest of Igangan to forestall future reoccurrence.
While talking to journalists, leader of the protest, Oladokun Oladiran lamented that late Dr. Fatai Aborode left his family abroad to venture into mechanized farming in Ibarapaland but was gruesomely murdered  by suspected Fulani herdsmen last Friday while returning from his farm.
He noted that most of the residents of the region are predominantly farmers and could no longer go to their farms because of fear of being killed or attacked, adding that hundreds have been murdered without any news report until the recent killing of Aborode. The youth leader appealed to the state government to find lasting solutions to the dreaded menace.
Oyo State Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan, who described late Aborode as his personal friend, assured the protesting youths that the state government will take proactive measures on their demands; appealing to them to remain laws abiding as they continue to express their grievances.
Olaniyan appealed to the placard-carrying youths not to take laws into their own hands, adding that government is already working seriously to nip the problem in the bud.
