In commemoration of the International Day of elimination of violence against women and girls, stakeholders have advocated the need for a collaborative effort to abate instances of violence against women as well as discourage women from engaging in violent acts.

They made the call at a symposium organized by the Family Support Initiative (FASI) with the theme “Unite; activism to end violence against women held in Ibadan
Oyo state Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Mr. Ojedokun Kayode, stressed that gender based violence in Nigeria needed to be tackled frontally, as any form of abuse or violence would generally affect the productivity of the people
He urged most men to expand their level of tolerance and ability to manage themselves in the face of daunting provocation when relating with the women folks, always assuming that women could be emotionally vulnerable.
One of the keynote speakers and chairperson of the event, Dr Olajumoke Akere, Director of JSAY Prevarsity, emphasized that the drive towards ending violence against women and the girl child falls in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), while noting that a system of inclusion that would give the women a pride of place in national polity and decision making has become imperative
Convener and state coordinator of Family Support Initiative (FASI), Amb. Agbeja Adebobola explained that in the face of violence being orchestrated by women, it has become necessary to caution against violence irrespective of gender with the aim of sensitizing the public on the need to shun other social vices like rape, female genital mutilation, girl child trafficking and early marriage amongst others.
