The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has warned the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) not to allow themselves to be used by people with ulterior motives to leverage on the present hard economy to foment trouble.
The Governor gave the warning while hosting the leadership of the association who paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Thursday.
It was a moment of praise and encomium as the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by its President, comrade Lucky Emonefe, paid a courtesy visit on the state number one citizen, Engineer Seyi Makinde.
Addressing the students, Governor Makinde, who expressed optimism that the tough period Nigerians are going through won’t last long, also said the state government would continue to do everything within its power to look after the welfare of students, noting that they are the future of the country.
Governor Seyi Makinde who reeled out various intervention programmes embarked upon by his government to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal also gave them assurance that the state government would give them everything necessary in terms of mobility and other logistic support to host their forthcoming NANS Senate meeting in the state.
Earlier in his address the NANS President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, said the purpose of their meeting was to intimate the state governor on the challenges the Nigerian Students are facing this period as he charged the state governors and other leaders of the nation to find lasting solutions in earnest.
Comrade Emonefe, who lauded the leadership qualities of Governor Makinde, affirmed that Oyo State has continued to be a pacesetter state due to laudable progress recorded by Governor Makinde since he took the mantle of leadership in the state.
In attendance were the state commissioner for Youth and Sports, Ms Wasilat Adegoke, and the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on Students’ affairs, Victor Olojede.
