The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to revolutionising healthcare delivery through technology with the commissioning of an e-Health project at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, Ondo State.

Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, May 29, 2025, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida, described the initiative as a bold step towards integrating the health sector into Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

According to Dr. Maida, “Today’s commissioning attests to our collective efforts to harness the power of ICT to improve and revolutionise the health sector in a manner that better serves citizens.”

He noted that the project serves two critical purposes—ensuring the health sector benefits from ICT ubiquity like other sectors and recognising that healthy citizens are vital to digital economic growth.

“With this e-health platform, we enhance the quality of medical services and ensure they are accessible to all, regardless of geographical location,” the NCC boss added.

The newly commissioned facility is equipped with modern technology to enable timely diagnoses, treatment planning, and follow-up care by healthcare professionals—factors that the EVC said would lead to improved patient satisfaction and better outcomes.

Dr. Maida stated that the impact of the project would extend beyond the hospital into the broader community and serve as a model for replication across other regions in Nigeria.

He stressed the importance of partnerships in bringing the vision to life, commending the collaboration between the Commission, technology experts, and government stakeholders.

“This collaboration has created a model that can be scaled nationwide to ensure the advantages of ICT in healthcare are widely felt,” he said.
