The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has commiserated with Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin 1); the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde; and the families of those who lost their lives to stampede during a Christmas Funfair held on Wednesday at Islamic High School, Bashorun Ibadan.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Council’s Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide on behalf of the President-General, Barrister Sulaimon Ajewole and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Ibadan.
Barrister Ajewole said the tragic incident has plunged the state into mourning period as it claimed lives of children and left many others seriously injured.
CCII President-General, who commiserated with the families of the deceased, also wished the injured quick recovery, while urging relevant authorities to provide adequate medical attention to all affected.
CCII also called on Oyo State Government to immediately embark on a fact-finding investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the tragedy and ensure that such incident does not happen again.
The President-General called on philanthropists, event organisers and other public event holders across the state to prioritise safety of participants and put measure in place to strictly control crowd in order to prevent such a recurrence in future.
Barrister Ajewole called on well-to-do individuals to join the state government in the efforts to help the injured especially in the areas of medical attention, feeding and others until they fully recuperate.
