The sudden death of Ekefa-Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senior Chief Lateef Oyelade has been described as a great loss to all spheres – social, religion and traditional systems – in Ibadanland.

The President – General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) Barr. Sulaiman Ajewole stated this in a statement issued to commiserate with the entire Ibadanland and the family of the deceased.

Senior Chief Oyelade, who was Babaasale Musulumi of Ibadanland, died on Friday 8th September, 2023.

Oyelade, until his demise, was a member of the Otun line of the Olubadan ascendancy system where he rose to the exalted level of Ekefa-Olubadan, a step before becoming an High Chief and member of the Olubadan Advisory Council his demise.

CCII President-General, who expressed shock over the sad occurrence, asked Allah to forgive the highly revered Ibadan senior chief.

He used the medium to console with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Dr.) Mohood Olalekan Alli Okunmade II, the Olubadan Advisory Council and the immediate family of the deceased. He prayed that God will console all concerned and give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

He stressed that Oyelade’s legacy will endure for long because of his kindness and generosity towards the less privileged in the society.

Ajewole charged all and sundry to pray for the repose of the soul of Senior Chief Oyelade who was loved by everybody during his lifetime.
