Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has again taken another swipe at the print media industry in Nigeria, describing their reports as unreliable.
Gbajabiamila, while entertaining a motion on a matter of urgent public importance on the floor of the House of Representatives moved by Honourable Solomon Bob, from Rivers State over alleged removal of Rivers State on the list of benefitting states of the World Bank Loan.
This is the second time, in less than two weeks that the speaker will be using strong words against Nigerian print media.
It would be recalled that on the 15th of September, Gbajabiamila, while reacting to how some sections of the media quoted his welcome address, wherein he was said to have hurriedly compared regional agitators in the country with Boko Haram and ISWAP.
The Speaker said “Yellow journalism, uninspiring journalism” is the bane of the professional misconduct in the country.
Speaking in the similar vein on the floor of the House on Thursday, 22nd of September, Mr. Speaker said Nigerian newspaper reports are unreliable.
Arguing his motion on matter of urgent public importance, Honourable Solomon was relying on the strength of information provided in the dailies, regarding the alleged removal of Rivers State from the list of benefiting states from World Bank Loan, describing such attempt as political vendetta.
However, Mr. Speaker simply said “Hon Bob, you and I know that Nigeria newspaper reports are not reliable”.
After further deliberations, the House adopted the modified prayer in the motion that investigation should be conducted with a view to finding out if only Rivers State is excluded, and should be included in the list of benefiting states.
