The Supreme Court on Friday delivered judgment in favour of the Oyo State Chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) under the leadership of Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye against the judgement of the Appeal Court which favoured Governor Seyi Makinde-led government.
It would be recalled that the council chairmen and councilors were sacked few hours after Governor Makinde took oath of office as governor.
Makinde, in a statement made available to journalists by his Chief of Staff, Chief Bisi Ilaka, asked the elected Council chairmen to handover to the head of local government administration or the most senior directors in their local government areas and councils.
The Apex Court, in its judgement, noted that the the tenures of the sacked council chairmen and councillors have expired but all outstanding salaries and allowances must be paid.
The court also fined Oyo State Government with a sum of N20 million for perpetrating illegality.
