Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in a statement on Saturday, told the Federal Government to provide job opportunities for the youths before considering placing a ban on cryptocurrency transactions in the country.
The two-time Vice-President and 2019 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, advised the Federal Government to have a rethink on its directive.
He said that the youths are under financial pressure due to the facts that many are jobless.
His statement reads, “what the country currently needs are jobs and an opening up of its economy following the report that foreign capital inflow into the country is at a 4 year low.”
“The nation has already suffered severe economic losses from the border closure and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“Introducing policies that would restrict the inflow of capital into Nigeria could harm its economy more and I urge the government to revisit the policy to prohibit the dealing in and transaction of crypto currencies,” he said.
It could be recalled that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday ordered all financial institutions in the country to stop all accounts transacting on Crypto currency.
This directives didn’t sit well with many Nigerians as several people took to social media to express their displeasure.
