Joint Action Committee of the three in-house unions of the Nigeria Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER) has implored federal government to save the institute from an impending calamity by not returning the incumbent Director-General, Dr. Folarin Gbedebo after the expiration of his tenure this month due to his incompetency and corruption.

This was stated during a protest by the Joint Action Committee at the entrance of the research institute in Ibadan on Tuesday.

In their petition, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Research Institute (ASURI),  Babatimehin Muyiwa alleged that the Director-General is guilty of financial infractions and embezzlement of public funds, administrative and academic incompetence and lack of requisite qualification for the position of the Director-General.

The protesters also urged the federal government not to disregard the allegations raised but should rather commence thorough investigation to ascertain the allegations of embezzlement and incompetence against Dr. Gbedebo.

In his reaction, Director-General  of NISER, Dr. Gbedebo declined to make any official comment, insisting that a panel had been set up to look into the allegations leveled against him.
