The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Jigawa State Command, has seized 1,944.389kg of illicit drugs valued at N2.8 billion in 2025, securing convictions for 136 peddlers amid a global push to combat drug abuse.

Briefing journalists on the Command’s 2025 records and activities at its headquarters in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Tuesday, the State Commander, Hassan Kabaju, said the agency seized 441.973kg of cannabis sativa, 1,373.886kg of psychotropic substances, and 128.520kg of other drugs of abuse.
During the year under review, the Kabaju explained that the Command secured the conviction of 136 illicit drug peddlers, out of 577 arrested, comprising 558 males and 19 females.
“The seized drugs are worth approximately ₦2.8 billion, based on current market prices,” he added.
“The command worked hard with great determination to limit the supply and abuse of hard drugs and other psychoactive substances,” Kabaju said.
The Commander noted that the agency counselled 552 drug users, with 59 male drug-dependent persons referred for treatment and rehabilitation at the Command’s Drug Demand Reduction Unit facility.
Under its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaign, Kabaju disclosed that the Command delivered 39,383 drug preventive education lectures and advocacy talks in various schools, including tertiary institutions.
However, the Jigawa NDLEA Commander identified a lack of vehicles, administrative, and operational machines as some of the challenges faced by the Command.
Despite these challenges, Mr Kabaju emphasised that the agency will continue to reach out to all corners of Jigawa’s 27 LGAs to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the state.
“The NDLEA will continue to intensify its efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Jigawa State,” he noted.
Kabaju also praised the personnel of the command, saying, “We pray that Jigawa State Command will make this Agency proud,” Kabaju said.
The NDLEA Commander thanked the public for their support and urged continued collaboration to tackle the menace of drug abuse in the state.
The NDLEA has made great strides in apprehending drug pushers in Nigeria since Marwa was first appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021. He has since been reappointed by the incumbent, President Tinubu.
