The Nigerian communication (NCC) says it is collaborating with major stockholders and licensees to address the challenges of poor quality of service being experienced in Abuja, the nation’s capital. According to a release issued and signed by Nnenna Ukoha, the Head, Public Affairs Department of the Commission. NCC notes that the challenges over quality of service (QoS) being experienced in Abuja, which has impacted the quality of experience of subscribers were largely caused by disruption to diesel supply affecting HIS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider responsible for powering Airtel and MTN base stations in the affected areas.
NCC notes in the release that the current challenges are as a result of the activities of the National Oil and Gas Supplies Association (NOGASA), which disrupted diesel supply to sites with the attendant telecommunications services outages in FCT.
The release emphasized that the commission remains committed to ensuring seamless communication services for all Nigerians and recognizes the importance of reliable power supply for provision of optimal telecommunication services. It notes further that the regulatory agency is actively engaging concerned stakeholders to address the issue of diesel supply, while urging all parties to work together to resolve the impasse by removing the supply bottlenecks affecting critical telecommunication infrastructure, arising from NOGASA’s actions.
Accordingly, the commission assured Nigerians that in the face of the current issue, proactive steps are being taking to facilitate dialogues between the parties to promptly resolve the supply chain issue, which has negatively affected the quality of service provided. While thanking subscribers for their understanding, the commission promised to remain dedicated to effectively managing the situation and will keep Nigerians updated on the progress towards restoring full telecommunication services in Abuja.
