The Olubadan-in-Council on Wednesday throws its weight behind High Chief Lekan Balogun, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland as Olubadan designate.
10 of 11 High Chiefs who invariably make Olubadan-in-Council and the kingmakers of the ancient city made the pronouncement through the Otun-Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola during a press conference held at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
Chief Ajibola said the kingmakers unanimously resolved to enthrone High Chief Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland in line with the tradition of Ibadanland.
He also refutes rumours making the rounds concerning the health status of the new Olubadan designate.
The 10 High Chiefs who converged on Mapo Hall for the press conference include Balogun Olubadan, Owolabi Olakulehin; Otun Balogun, Olufemi Olaifa; Ashipa Olubadan, Eddy Oyewole and Osi Balogun, Tajudeen Ajibola.
Others are Ekaarun Olubadan, Amidu Ajibade; Ashipa-Balogun Olubadan, Lateef Gbadamosi; Ekaarun Balogun, Kola Adegbola and Ekerin Olubadan Abiodun Kola-Daisi.
Olubadan designate, while delivering his speech, enjoined all and sundry to discard “unfounded rumours and insinuations capable of disturbing the peace of Ibadanland.”
Balogun said the Olubadan-in-Council was complying with traditional practice of Ibadan and was liaising with the Oyo State Government to ensure that due processes are strictly followed towards emergence of the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.
