Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has praised the National Assembly for giving President Muhammadu Buhari a six-week ultimatum to fight insecurity or face impeachment.

Last Wednesday, the Senate Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus walked out of the plenary to protest Buhari’s failure to end insecurity.

The Minority Leader , Senator Philip Aduda and his colleagues later addressed the Senate Press Corps, issuing a six-week ultimatum to Buhari to sit up or face impeachment proceedings.

Ortom lobbied the Senators for the change, claiming it was long overdue.

According to a statement given by his Chief Press Secretary, Nath Ikyur, the Governor gave the commendation on Friday when he received a delegation of National Assembly members led by Aduda who came to brief him.

The Governor called the Senate and House of Representatives PDP caucuses’ threat to impeach the President “patriotic,” and praised some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC for doing the “right thing.”

According to Ortom, Buhari has fallen far short of Nigerians’ expectations in addressing the country’s security and economic challenges.

Aduda informed Ortom that as a leader of the PDP in the North Central, the delegation thought it was appropriate to brief him on the decision of the National Assembly to impeach the President.

Similarly, a senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ishaku Elisha Abbo has backed the move to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.

Abbo said he fully supports the impeachment move against Buhari due to the spate of insecurity in the country.

The Senators gave Buhari six weeks to resolve the insecurity crisis in the country or they would be forced to impeach him.

However, Abbo, while speaking with Channels TV, said: “I’m in full support of the impeachment move against the President.

“The Nigerian leader has failed in his fundamental responsibility to secure the lives and property of the people.”
