As part of the efforts to reduce road  accidents to the barest minimum during the festive season of Eidel-Kabir, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has flagged off a joint operation among security operatives tagged ‘Operation Eagle Eye’ to ensure safety and security of commuters, drivers and other road users on highways across the country.

Flagging off the operation in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, NEMA Director-General, Mustapha Ahmed said the agency is worried by the increasing rate of road mishaps, adding that the need to minimize accidents, bloodshed and loss of lives on the highways birthed the initiative.

Ahmed, who was represented by the South-West Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Saheed Akiode, said the life-saving operation was organized in partnership with relevant stakeholders in disasters management to sensitise and enlighten motorists and other road users on proactive measures to avert road mishaps.

NEMA South-West Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Akiode, on behalf of the Director-General, commended all stakeholders in emergency management for the tremendous and the synergy enjoyed by the agency so far. He stressed that the collaboration has helped in reducing the impact of disaster in Oyo State through timely response and interventions in rescue operations.

Mr. Akiode, who later declared “Operation Eagle Eye”, also codenamed Operation Safe Eidel-Kabir open, wished all emergency management agencies successful and safe operation.

He also wished all Muslims happy Eidel-Kabir, urging them to remember that road safety is everybody’s business.

The stakeholders at the flag off   include operatives of the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Red Cross, Federal and State Fire Service, Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps and Oyo State Emergency Management Agency, among others.
