Following his victory against Argentine Lucas Matias Montesino in the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Super Featherweight title, a sports enthusiast, Alhaji Abdulwahab Adekunle has presented a brand new Jaguar car to Ridwan ‘Scorpion’ Oyekola.
The silver colour vehicle was presented today, Saturday, 2nd of January, at the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) premises, Ibadan, in the presence of the President, Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, (NBBofC), Dr. Rafiu Ladipo.
While presenting the car key to the new WBF champion, Oyekola, Alhaji Adekunle, explained that the gesture is to motivate and encourage other young boxers, especially those with hopeless situation to give in their best to become world known professional boxers like Rilwan Adekola.
He said further that his intention was to encourage Rilwan to put in his best to excel in his first international bout against the Argentine, Lucas. He added that his group, AMEX is one of the non-governmental groups that doesn’t believe in leaving sports and human development to government alone to shoulder.
Alhaji Adekunle established that AMEX Group is always ready to support government initiatives in sports, especially boxing to bring back the fading and lost glory back to Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria in general.
The AMEX Group boss urged federal government to identify and see sports as an important segment of boosting the country’s revenue. He appealed that government should invest in sports through facility and human development, training and retraining of coaches and officials.
Rilwan Adekola, popularly called Scorpion appreciated the gesture and dedicated it to God. The WBF champion disclosed that it was God who changed his life from a mere ‘Okada’ rider to world known boxer.
He commended Alhaji abdulwahab Adekunle, his manager and promoter, Mr. Olusola Ayodele and the entire body of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control led by Dr. Rafiu Ladipo for their efforts and support towards his victory.
In his remarks, Mr. Olusola Ayodele described rilwan Adekola as a promising boxer, who is always ready to make Nigeria proud anytime, anywhere in the world as far as boxing is concerned.
