Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has empowered Officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to impound vehicles with covered number plates in the state.
RRS, in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs Unit, Femi Moliki, said that the Security Agency has impounded not less than 6 vehicles in different parts of the State.
“Five of the vehicles have been transferred to the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences. The sixth, a Mercedes Benz, ML 350 was intercepted and impounded in Victoria Island by the officers of the squad around 9:30 PM yesterday,” RRS said.
RRS also reported that the Driver of the Mercedes Benz, one Adam Oluremi, threatened and mobilized a Military man to shoot the officers, it however, said that the officers professionally de-escalated the crisis and successfully towed the vehicle to RRS Headquarters.
Reacting to the development, RRS Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi charged officers of the squad to be professional in the discharge of their responsibilities, adding that they should be civil and firm in enforcing the law.
He urged the officers to be dedicated and not to give room for distractions while performing their duties.
He further stated that law abiding Lagosians should look forward to a robust relationship, noting that, the squad would be uncompromising with criminals.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Odunmosu has directed that the owners of the impounded vehicles be prosecuted according to the law.
