The inauguration of two executives for Oyo State NAWOJ on Thursday, 25th of November, 2021 has been condemned and described as unprecedented negativity by elders and past officers of the female arm of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ in Oyo State.
According to a statement signed by the pioneer chairperson Mrs. Bose Oyewole and other past chairpersons of the state chapter, the inconsistency on the part of the National Executives has led to the polarisation of the once vibrant group in the state.
“It is unprecedented that an election stipulated to hold at the Press Centre – home of all journalists – moved to the secretariat of some other group when members were already on ground to exercise their franchise in obedience to the instruction of the NAWOJ National Executives.”
The statement added that NAWOJ elders in the state had already seen the trend of events and had written to the national body to postpone the election and give the elders time to intervene in the crisis.
The elders include Mrs. Bose Oyewole, Pioneer Chairman and Former Vice-Chairman B Zone; Mrs. Bisi Yomi-Layinka, Past Chairperson; Mrs. Kemi Ajayi, Mrs. Adekitan Adeagbo, Past Chairperson; Ms. Foluso Lala, Past Chairperson; Dr. Tayo Lewis, Mrs. Toyin Malik, Past Chairperson; Ms. Tinu Ayanniyi and Mrs. Bolatito Joseph.
The elders however pleaded with the two executives inaugurated simultaneously yesterday to come together for peaceful negotiation and resolution while urging all NAWOJ members in the state to calm down and give peace a chance.
