Youths on the platform of ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State have rejected the purported announcement of Hon. Kafilat Olakojo as party’s chairmanship candidate in the forthcoming May 15th, 2021 council elections.
According to a statement signed by the protesting members which include Akinwumi Akanmu, Olayiwola Adeleke and Mrs. Adetunji Zainab, the official venue of the primary election that was announced to members was Atiba Local Government Secretariat while it was later changed to one Dokson Hotel, Olooro, Oyo.
The aggrieved party members said those that were on the race for the post of Chairman of Atiba Local Government are Honorable Oguntona Seun Olunloyo, Hon. Ibrahim Sulaimon Akinkunmi, Hon. Wahab Waliu Adetunji and Hon. Oyeleke Gabriel.
They urged the state party leadership to urgently address the issue which they said could affect the unity of the ruling party in the local government area.
It would be recalled that media reports had said violence and brigandage marred the PDP primaries in some local government areas across the state.
Many of the party members, especially those intending to contest in the forthcoming local government election have written open letters to Governor Seyi Makinde to restore sanity into the party.
According to the election time table rolled out by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), the election to the 33 local government areas in the state is slated to come up on 15th of May, 2021.
OYSIEC Chairman, Barrister Isiaka Olagunju has appealed to all registered political parties in the state to participate in the election, adding that the commission will conduct free, fair and credible election in a transparent manner.
