The Chairman, Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners, Repairs and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Oyo state chapter, Comrade Olugbode Solomon today bagged a honorary doctorate degree (PhD.) in Transport and Logistics.

Olugbode was conferred the honorary doctorate degree from the West African University, Cotonou, Benin Republic during the 5th convocation and lecture of the university.

The honorary doctorate degree award conferred on Comrade Olugbode according to the university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr Olayiwola O. was in recognition of Olugbode’s immense contribution to the transport and logistics business in the state as well as the sanity brought to the operations and activities of ACOMORAN in Oyo state.

The event which held at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, today September 17 had others from different parts of Nigeria received different honorary and academic degree awards from the University.

By the award, Comrade Olugbode according to the university has officially become entitled to the title of a Dr being a recipient of the honorary Doctor of Philosophy award from the institution and can henceforth be officially addressed as Dr Olugbode.

According to the guest speaker at the event, Professor Abiodun Amuda-Kannike who is also the Dean, Faculty of Law, Kwara state university, entrepreneurship is the new goldmine Nigerians must strive to venture into regardless of whatever level acquired paper certificates.

Olugbode, in his brief remarks while addressing journalists shortly after the ceremony dedicated the award to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state and all ACOMORAN members across the state.

He said Governor Makinde through his purposeful and visionary leadership has created an enabling environment for the operations of tricycle and commercial motorcycle business to thrive making ACOMORAN a viable employer of labour creating employment opportunities for thousands of Nigerians who may have become threats to the society.

“I feel very honoured to receive this honorary doctorate degree award from the West African University, Benin republic. This decoration is just a sign of people and even constituted authorities seeing what we have been doing for the society and how we are also contributing to the economy of the state.

“This award no doubt is a call to do more because to whom much is given more is expected. It is also an indication that whatever you do, always know that people are watching you even if they were not talking.

“Coming here today has further exposed me and I have learned quite a lot of things. And going forward, we must reciprocate the knowledge we have acquired here into our daily dealings towards making the society even more better.

“As the Chairman of ACOMORAN in Oyo state, my take home from this place is to ensure that as an entrepreneur, every little things we do on daily basis while carrying out our legitimate business eventually becomes the big issues and we must therefore, ensure that we exhibit traits and characters worthy of emulation by those under us and those coming behind us.” Dr Olugbode said.

Earlier, Prof Amuda-Kannike, in his keynote convocation lecture stressed the need for universities in Nigeria to offer additional certificates to graduating students in the face of current realities in the country adding that entrepreneurial skills have proven to b e one of the strongest economic tools to drive thriving industries at any level.

He charged the fresh graduands and others conferred with honorary degree awards to be more entrepreneurial in their disposition to life as against waiting for salaried and white-collar jobs stressing that it is only via entrepreneurship that revolving wealth can be created in any society.
