Oyo State Police Command has Debunked news making rounds that a gang of armed robbers invaded Alaafia Estate in Orogun area of Ibadan and dispossessing residents of their savings through the use of POS machine.

The command, in a statement signed by the state PPRO, DSP Adewale Osifeso on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, described the news misleading and undermining.

The statement revealed that the police thwarted the robbery incident in the the early hours of Monday, 31/05/2021 at about 3AM following distress calls from residents of Alaafia Estate, Ojoo Area of Ibadan, adding that a team of operational and intelligence assets were swiftly deployed to the area to restore normalcy.

The police further stated that the armed robbers hurriedly fled the scene leaving behind, in the process, a pistol,  three cutlasses and a bag containing male undergarments and Sim cards suspected to be properties of residents.

The statement titled: “RE: OROGUN COMMUNITY ROBBERY INCIDENT” reads:

“The attention of the Oyo State Police Command has been drawn to the misleading and undermining news making the rounds, about how a group of hoodlums raided  the residents of Alafia Estate, with POS machines, withdrawing funds in the accounts of residents and disposing them of their properties for about two hours without police intervention.”

“The Command wishes to refute this news targeted at crippling the effectiveness of the police in that axis and in the state by intimating the general public with facts of the incidence as thus:”

“In response to a distress call received in the early hours of Monday,  31/05/2021 at about 0300hrs by residents of Alafia Estate, Ojoo area of Ibadan, A team of operational and intelligence assets were swiftly deployed to the area to restore normalcy.”

“On sighting the Police, the hoodlums hurriedly fled the scene leaving behind in the process, a pistol along with 3 (three) cutlasses and a bag containing both male undergarments and Sim cards suspected to be properties of residents.”

“Investigations are actively ongoing to apprehend the culprits and as well crackdown their criminal chain.”

“The Commisioner of Police wishes to assure the good residents of Alafia Estate and Oyo state as a whole that the Command would not relent in its mandate to provide comprehensive and adequate security coverage for all and sundry.”

“However, she enjoins all to imbibe the culture of providing the police with only timely and accurate information useful in fueling the course of birthing a peaceful Oyo state of our collective dreams.”
