The Oyo state Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has hinted on plans to commence recruitment exercises for primary school teachers in order to address shortage of manpower across public primary schools in the state.

The Governor who disclosed this at a stakeholders consultative meeting for 2024 budget at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, promised to expand budgetary provisions to between 10 – 12 billion naira annually to upgrade deplorable public school infrastructures.

To ensure a people oriented budget that is all inclusive, it has been a yearly practice by the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration to organize a town hall meeting to consult with relevant stakeholders in drawing up the annual budget.

Addressing various interest groups and stakeholders in preparation for the 2024 budget, Governor Seyi Makinde agreed with suggestions that public primary schools in the state require enough manpower and infrastructural upgrade and vowed to employ more primary school teachers by first quarter of next year.

He equally assured a fully functional category 3 upgrade of the 351 primary health centres across that state while pledging to begin enforcement of environmental and sanitation laws to truly create a serene environment that will be investors friendly.

Expressing concern on the state of infrastructure across the state, Governor Makinde reeled out various road projects and interventions his government has embarked upon and promised to kick off the complete reconstruction of at least 100km inner city roads

In a welcome address, commissioner for budget and economic planning, Prof Babatunde Musibau emphasized that the consultative meeting remained a serious process for an effective budget and stressed the need for sensitization of the people to participate in the consultative meeting across the various zones of the state.

Earlier representatives of various groups and segments of the society, express their demands and expectations on what they desired to be captured in the 2024 budget.

Speaking on behalf of the state house of assembly, honourable Sunkami Babalola assured that the 10th assembly will not renege in its responsibilities of ensuring a speedy budgetory process.

Commissioners and other top government functionaries attended the event.
