Ibadan-born legal luminary, Chief Adeniyi Akintola has said Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in Oyo State lacks think-tank.
Chatting with journalists at the monthly breakfast media chat organized by the South West Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP), Akintola, who is a known critic of the present administration in Oyo State said, “I don’t belong to the class of disco-critics who never see anything good in their opponents. I’m a political scientist, a lawyer and a chattered administrator, so don’t put me in the same class of the disco-critics who don’t see anything good in their opponents.”
“Seyi Makinde, he came on board, he had no template. The template of development of Oyo State was anchored and designed by Governor Ladoja just like Bola Tinubu in Lagos, but Makinde came on board without a template and I criticize that, but when he decided to take up some major steps like reviving Ajoda. How many people have thought that Ibadan is the only regional capital that has not moved to a new town out of the three regions? Check it out! successive governments came and did nothing about those infrastructures like Ajoda New Town and Agbowo Shopping Complex. Makinde came suddenly and he touches it, so I have to commend him.”
The legal icon said people don’t appreciate good governance, stressing that it was a social problem created by the society due to lack of proper appraisal. He said it is not enough to have a university degree as ideas rule the world.
“There are many people who are educated but not articulate. We made our mistake as APC due to lack of native intelligence and appraisal, so when the Governor came on board without a plan; and he is using demarketing and populism against us, but unfortunately for him, he has people like me to contend with.”
Akintola said he would praise Makinde where he deserves commendation and criticize him when the need arises. The legal luminary revealed that some of his people always caution him when he praises the Governor, stressing that his principle goes beyond party loyalty and truth is constant.
He said the two weapons the governor is using against the opposition APC in Oyo State are populism and de-marketing the the progressives.
“Look at what happened to us in the progressive; we left our doors opened and the thieves came poaching everything. Look at where we are now. The governor capitalizes on our failure,” he added.
He however said the present administration in Oyo State needs to put a functional think-tank in place.
