Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu  has commended Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) over peaceful conduct of LG Poll.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also maintained that level of advocacy about elections needs improvement so that electorate can be well encouraged.

He said “it is just the encouragement and advocacy that we all need to express ourselves as residents.

“We have to improve on advocacy. Everyone has a role to play here as stakeholders. This is another call for people to come out to express themselves.”

Sanwo-Olu who was accompanied by his wife, Ibijoke, on Saturday at about 11:03am, cast his vote at Polling Unit 19, Ward 9, Femi Okunnu/Lateef Jakande Avenue, Ikoyi, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.

The governor expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of the election, stressing that while on his way to the Polling Unit, he noticed that elections were being conducted without any chaos in about four polling booths.

Sanwo-Olu, while speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote, said “that is the beauty of democracy. In some other countries that we follow which have been on it for 200 years, you will see that there is no election where you have 100 or 50 percent.

He maintained that he would not say it is a crowded one but it means that things are going on peacefully.

“With the report I have received so far, in the last two and a half hours, things are going as expected and there could be a few delays in terms of offices coming up, like we have had even here. But we thank God that at least they are here.” Sanwo-Olu said.

Governor Sanwo-Olu however lauded the LASIEC for the peaceful conduct of the polls, saying things are going on peacefully as expected, we are expecting that everything will go well, smooth, free and fair till the end of the exercise.

“We will continue to increase on advocacy for people to come and vote, this is about the only time when we can express ourselves peacefully and openly, infrastructure has been provided, all the logistics have been provided.” The governor concluded.
