Some residents of Ladipo in Mushin area of Lagos State have died in a gas explosion that wrecked havoc in the area early this morning.
Several others sustained injuries in the incident, which was said to have occurred around 9am on today.
Ibrahim Farinloye, Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said the explosion occurred at a LPG domestic retailing centre at Ojekunke Street, Ladipo Spare Part Market.
“So far, four adults comprising of three males and one female (simply identified as Mama Funmi) were recovered dead while the only infant rescued died before getting to hospital.
“The fire has been put out out already and recovery of bodies ongoing.
State Fire Service, Police Disaster Management Unit, NEMA and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) are on rescue operations.” He said.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also announced that it is attending to the situation.
In a statement, the agency said on arrival at the scene, it was discovered that an open space used for several activities, including a beer parlour, mechanic workshop, spare parts sale, and gas shop were affected.
Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye said the place has been cordoned off to prevent any secondary incident.
She said investigation to establish the cause of the incident is ongoing and further discovery will be made public.
