A new twist emerged on Tuesday in the ongoing travails of suspended  super cop, Abba Kyari as Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba ordered the closure of all satellite units of the Police Intelligence Response Team and Special Tactical Squad across the country.

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday declared Kyari wanted over his alleged involvement in drug deals which also saw four other top senior officers in the police force indicted by the Agency.

As a result of the perceived embarrassment to the Force, the Inspector-General of Police on Tuesday ordered the disbandment of all satellite units of the Police Intelligence Response Team and Special Tactical Squad across the country.

All serving officers in the satellite units have, therefore, been asked to report to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for debriefing.

Channels Television reported that a police source confirmed this on Tuesday, adding that authorities have directed that serving officers and men in the unit will be demobilised and posted to commands across the country.

Meanwhile, the Force management also directed that the IRT/STS Headquarters in Abuja should be fortified and organised for enhanced operational performance to combat emerging trends.

It would be recalled that suspended Head of Intelligence Response Team and Deputy Police Commissioner, Abba Kyari was arrested by the Nigeria Police on Monday alongside four others hours after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) declared him wanted over alleged drug links.

The suspended DCP is also under investigation after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States of America indicted him in the case of fraud involving Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, popularly called Hushpuppi.
