Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has emerged the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential candidate in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

His victory came after Sokoto State Governor and fellow aspirant, Aminu Tambuwal stepped down and gave his votes to the former Vice President.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike came second in the keenly contested competition as Atiku polled a total of 371 votes while Wike garnered 237 votes.

It would be recalled that 17 aspirants purchased the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms out of whom two were disqualified by David Mark-led Screening Committee while formal Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi opted out of the race and resigned from the party, leaving 14 contenders as the PDP’s aspirants.

Details of the votes scored by the aspirants are as follows:

Atiku Abubakar – 371

Nyesom Wike- 237

Bukola Saraki – 70

Udom Emmanuel – 38

Bala Mohammed – 20

Pius Anyim – 14

Sam Ohabunwa – 1

Olivia Tariela – 1

There were 12 void votes.
