State Governor of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola has described the Nigerian Armed Forces as a dependable institution of sustenance and survival of the Nigeria’s sovereignty since independence.

Governor Oyetola who spoke through his Deputy, Benedict Alabi made this declaration at the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Thanksgiving service held at Methodist church Nigeria, Cathedral of the Living Spring, Osogbo.

Governor Oyetola said the Armed Forces which commenced as the Nigeria Royal West African Frontier Force until 1956 remains a reckoning force in Africa.

He added that their array of peace keeping operations in African Countries such as Congo, Sudan among others have positioned Nigeria as a big brother on the continent.

According to the state helmsman, the professional role played by the Armed Forces to restore peace, unification and hope, during the 30-month of civil war will forever remains unforgettable in the annals of the nation-state.

He emphasised the need for constant prayer and unflinching support for the military in the battle against insurgency and other security challenges facing the nation.

He pointed out that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an annual celebration of the fallen heroes and living legends of the armed forces, including those presently in active service.

The Governor, who recognized armed forces as being pivotal to the survival of Nigeria as an entity and stability of the polity, urged them to remain focused, committed and strong in their statutory obligation of protecting the territorial integrity and curtailing internal uprising in the country.
