Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has described as worrisome the spate of kidnapping of innocent citizens in Ibarapa area of the state.

The Speaker, who made disclosure during his visit to the office of the Oyo State Park Management Committee, Eruwa, where he was informed that the story of the  abduction of passengers in the 18-seater Mazda Primera on Wednesday night was untrue. He said measures have been intensified to curb the development.

According to the Speaker, “The information we first received was that passengers of 18-seater in the Mazda Primera bus were abducted, but during my visit  to the Eruwa Park Manager’s office, we discovered that the story was untrue, but  only two persons were kidnapped in a six passenger vehicle.”

“The issue of kidnapping in the region has become so worrisome, and I want to assure you that measures are ongoing by the security operatives and local vigilante to curb the menace and  rescue the victims,” Hon. Ogundoyin noted.

Earlier in his address, the Park Manager of Eruwa, Gbenga Ojedapo, said that cases of kidnaping in the area had become alarming and called for concern. He added that the abduction of the two persons on Wednesday night occurred at Opeki Bridge area between Eruwa and Igbo-Ora.

Ojedapo explained that abductors have contacted husband of one of the victims through a telephone conversation, demanded N10 million ransom for her release. He, however, disclosed that abductors have stopped negotiations because the husband could not meet up with their demand.

The Park Manager further said efforts had been made by the park management and the police in the area to secure the release of the victims but nothing had been achieved.

While calling for collective forts to ensure the release of the victims, Ojedapo urged the Speaker to assist them to facilitate their release.
