It was a moment of jubilation and elation at Aroro-Yerokun in ward-3 of Akinyele Local Government Area when Honourable Olusola Akeem Akintunde, popularly known as A-K, decamped from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State with over 150 followers amidst party-like funfair.

Honourable Akintunde, who identified his passion for progress as major reason for joining PDP, appreciated efforts put in place by the present Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to turn around the infrastructure of the state.
“I like to appreciate anything progress, progress is what matters most in our society today, and whenever I found progress, I think that is the normal place for someone or youths to be and that has been the basis for taking decision to leave APC and decamp to PDP”, he stated.
When asked if he’s nursing any political ambition, the young politician said: “Actually I once took a step to contest during 2019, but the former Governor, late Abiola Ajimobi advised me to step down for a member of the state House of Assembly then, which I did. Ever since then I’ve been trying to contest but APC has not been progressive as it used to be. And that’s why I have decided to take my time to learn more about politics before I take another decision by 2027, but not in 2023. So I still have ambition.”
Assessing Makinde-led government, Honourable Akintunde commended the governor, stressing that even though nobody is perfect.
“Summarily, he has been trying.” He simply stated.
A leader in the ward, who is also a full time member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Ayoade Adekola expressed his limitless joy for the big fish the party has caught.
“I’m very happy that he has successfully decamped to our party. He is a great leader, but great as he is, we always defeat them in this Aroro-Yerokun in ward- 3.
“The philosophy of PDP is that the more, the merrier. Now that he has decamped into our great party, and he has come under the great umbrella, we will have less to do. With his decampment, the opposition APC in ward- 3 is no more in existence.” Honourable Adekola stated.
Meanwhile, another PDP leader and former PDP Chairman in ward-3, Emmanuel Olalekan and Oluokun Ajibode respectively could not hide their joy as they promised internal democracy and vowed to treat everyone, including new entrants, equally.
They described decampment of Honourable Akintunde as netting a big fish by the PDP.
