The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 2023 election, Peter Obi has finally reacted to the judgement of the Supreme Court of October 26, that affirmed the victory of President Bola Tinubu in that election, expressing loss of confidence in the judiciary.
Obi addressed a press conference in Abuja on Monday where he poured out his mind stating that he and his vice presidential candidate, as well as his political party, the Labour Party have elected to remain in the opposition.
He however lamented that ”both INEC and the Supreme Court as the referees (of the election) respectively shifted the goalposts in the middle of the game”.
Obi criticized the judgement of the apex court and insisted that its verdict broke the confidence Nigerians had in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.
Obi who addressed the world press conference at the headquaters of the Obi/Datti campaign organisation, said the judgment of the apex court had marked the end of his quest for justice over the conduct of the 2023 presidential election, but hinted he may still contest in the 2027 presidential election.
“The energy of Nigerian youths has been amazing and I want to assure them that this is not the end of our journey but it is the beginning,” he said.
“We shall endure, persist until we reaches our destination because one Nigeria is our destination.
“We don’t regret anything we did. We came out on a campaign for new Nigeria which no other person did,” Obi added.
He also revealed why he refused to step down or work with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite overtures from several quarters, because he campaigned for a new Nigeria, unlike other presidential candidates who were satisfied with the old order.
