Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners, Repairs and Riders Association in Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Oyo State Chapter has called on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde to come to the rescue of its members as bad elements are using Okada to perpetrate evils which tarnish image of the association.
ACOMORAN Chairman in Oyo State, Comrade Olugbode Solomon, who stated this while addressing journalists in Ibadan on Monday, lamented the injustice meted on his members especially the hijack of their parks by men of Lamidi Mukaila (popularly called (AUXILIARY) who heads Disciplinary Committee of Park Management System (PMS).
Solomon, who expressed readiness of his members to get registered as directed by Governor MAKINDE, pleaded with the state government to intervene and stop PMS and other motorists from meddling in the affairs of ACOMORAN.
Penangle recalls that Governor Makinde had last week expressed readiness of the state government to collaborate with ACOMORAN for a better and improved operations as well as making extra efforts to unite the association which is already factionalized.
“We will also be meeting with heads of the association of Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle And Motorcycle, Owners, Repairs And Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), and I also understand that they also have a breakaway faction in Oyo state.”
“Well, the two of them, we will be reaching out to them and we have to ensure that we get them registered so this would go a long way to address how some people are hiding under their platform to commit crime.”
“The options, for me, are really very simple to us, it is either they get registered and we know who are the operators or we regulate their hours of operations and we can say that after 6 o’clock we don’t want to see okadas and tricycles on our streets, we have the power to do that but how does that affects our economy?.”
Comrade Solomon however assured that his association will give the state government required support and cooperation in its bid to sanitize operations of both okada riders and tricycle operators in the state in order to forestall crisis emanating from their activities and operations within the state.
He noted that registration of ACOMORAN members at this period became inevitable as the activities of bad elements using Okadas and tricycles to perpetrate evils to tarnish image of ACOMORAN affect both the operators and their passengers.
He assured the state government that ACOMORAN is ever ready to support various developmental projects embarked upon by Makinde-led administration, calling on security agencies to synergize with ACOMORAN to sanitize Okada/Tricycle operation in Oyo state.
