Today’s proceedings at the 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival went beyond ceremony—it became a powerful moment of recognition for impact, consistency, and meaningful contribution to society.

At the ongoing award segment of the festival, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) once again demonstrated its commitment to celebrating individuals whose work continues to shape the narrative of Ibadanland.

One of the standout moments of the day was the honour bestowed on Temitope Ademola Obideyi, who was recognised as Icon of Heritage in the Sports Category and aptly described as a Pillar of Sports.

The honour is widely seen as well deserved. Beyond the title lies a compelling story—one defined by dedication to grassroots development, a passion for nurturing young talents, and a consistent commitment to building structures where others might have chosen mere rhetoric.

Obideyi’s journey reflects years of intentional effort, quiet resilience, and a vision focused on the future of sports in Ibadan and beyond.

The award was presented by elder statesman and former President-General of CCII, Chief Bayo Oyero, adding further prestige to the moment.

Also present at the event were the President-General of CCII, Barrister Sulaimon Ajeniyi Adewole; Oba Adegboyega Sanni, the Elegbeda of Egbeda; Mogaji Moshood Akere, Chairman of the 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival Planning Committee; and Alhaja Folashade Olayiwola, Chairperson of the Sports and Entertainment Sub-Committee and Social Secretary of CCII, alongside other dignitaries.

As the recognition was conferred, the atmosphere in the room carried a distinct sense of affirmation. It was a reminder that Ibadan remains a city that acknowledges and celebrates its own—especially those whose contributions are both impactful and enduring.

This recognition also highlights the work of Obideyi as Chairman of the Ex-Ibadan Professional Footballers Association (EIPFA). Under his leadership, the association recently concluded a statewide football tournament that engaged over 80 secondary schools across Oyo State, serving as a platform for discovering and nurturing emerging talents.

Such initiatives underscore the depth of his contribution to sports development and youth empowerment within the state.

More than an award, this moment stands as validation—of years of dedication, of purposeful action, and of a legacy that continues to unfold. It reinforces a clear message: true impact will always find expression, and meaningful work will never go unnoticed.

As Ibadan celebrates this milestone, the expectation is clear—that this recognition will open even greater opportunities for further influence and expansion of his vision.

Ibadan is watching. And indeed, Ibadan is proud.
