Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has applauded the continuous effort of West Midland communications in promoting sporting activities and advancing sport in the state through its annual Lagelu FM inter secondary schools relay competition.
The Governor stated this at the grand finale of the 5th edition of the relay competition held at the Lekan Salami sport complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The state Commissioner for Education, Barrister Abdur-Rahmon Abdur-Raheem equally affirmed that the activity would help in discovering new talents across the nation.
This year’s edition of the LageluFm inter secondary school relay race has been rounded with winners emerging in various categories
The competition which began in 2017 had help in discovering different talents with great potentials, beginning with over sixty schools as participants in the first edition, this 5th edition had the highest participants with over 1300 athletes on the tracks to show their talents
Representing Governor Seyi Makinde at the event, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon Seun Fakorede acknowledged that Lagelu FM and its partners have demonstrated significant interest as well as commitment to youths development in the state with the competition.
The commissioner who was represented by the director of sport administration, Mrs Bisi Adegoke also charged the participants to always imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship as they continue to pursue their talents in sports.
Also, commissioner for education who was represented by the permanent secretary and Inspector-General of education, Elder Delani Binuyo, noted that the initiative would not only impact Oyo State but would be value addition to the nation’s sport sector while encouraging others to emulate Lagelu FM.
In their separate remarks, the Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Atinuke Adetunji and the General Manager, Operations, Mr. Tunde Olawuwo unanimously noted the yearly improvement of the competition and assured that a hall of fame would be established to create a platform for proper nurturing of discovered talents even as they pursue their educational ambition.
At the end of the relay, 4 × 100m boys and girls finals Liberty Academy emerged first, Bodija International College and Ibadan Grammar School emerged 2nd and 3rd respectively for boys as Liberty Academy, Bodija International College and Christ High School, Eleta emerged first, second and third respectively in the girls category.
Other categories were 4 × 200m boys and girls final,
Providence High School, Liberty Academy and Ibadan Grammar School emerged 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively for boys as Liberty Academy, Christ High School and Lords Secondary School Emerged 1st, 2nd and third respectively for the girls category.
For the 4× 100m mixed race, Bodija International College, Liberty Academy and Providence High school emerged 1st, 2nd and third respectively.
The event was attended by several sports stakeholders, government officials and other prominent Nigerians including the founder and chairman of Splash FM and Lagelu FM, the ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Adebayo Akande.
