For Nigerians to enjoy uninterrupted network service delivery, members of the public have been enjoined to protect the telecommunication infrastructures in their domains.
This formed the focus of a one-day stakeholders dialogue meeting in Ibadan organized by the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC).
In a paper presentation titled “Protection of Telecom Infrastructure For Improved Quality of Service: The Role of Residents”, NCC Director of Consumer Affairs, Mr. Efosa Idehen said quality of services in communities where Telecom equipments were vandalised would suffer major setbacks if not checked.
Mr. Idehen, who appealed to members of the public to allow installation of telecom infrastructures in their communities, said mobile equipment have been certified safe for use by relevant local and international organizations.
While reacting to complaints of bad network in Ibadan, Mr. Idehen said all providers are expected to report cases of serious technical glitch within two hours to the NCC.
Earlier in a welcome address, Chairman, NCC Board of Commissioners, Prof. Adeolu Akande expressed worry over cases of vandalization and theft of telecom infrastructures, appealing to people to see government’s property as their own.
“It is impossible for security agencies to be at every site we have telecom infrastructures, so we need the cooperation of every member of the public and the consumers of the services of network providers.”
“We are doing this all over the country to mobilise Nigerians to support the NCC and telecom service providers in the protection of telecom infrastructures.” He stated.
Prof. Akande said consumers who are unsatisfied with the services of any network provider should dial 622 toll-free number to report to NCC.
Some of the stakeholders advised NCC to synergize with community executives to ensure security of telecom infrastructures in their domains.
The stakeholders dialogue had in attendance the representative of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Chief Ademola Odunade, Deputy Director, National Orientation Agency, and other prominent Nigerians.
