The Oyo State Police Command, as part of its core mandate of protecting lives and property, has expressed concerns over the rising case of fire incidents in Ibadan during this dry season.

The command advised residents to adopt the highest level of caution whenever dealing with combustible and other highly flammable objects.

A statement signed and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, said the command felt disturbed over the rate of negligence exhibited by individuals who store jerricans of fuel at places of residents/shops and even make calls around active fuel pumps and gas cookers.

Osifeso also said bush burning and incineration of refuse at this period must never be left unsupervised to avoid unnecessary escalation of wild fire.

He revealed that the Command, in partnership with other sister services particularly the Fire Service, would embark on continuous media sensitization campaigns and operational drills to keep residents in check, urging people to speak up whenever they notice any suspicious activity.

The command issued numbers to call in case of emergency. The numbers are: 07055495413 and 08081768614 with 615 (toll free) for the Oyo State Security Trust Fund.
