As part of efforts to ensure there is a reliable database for adequate security and proper economic planning, the Oyo State government has flagged off free distribution of reflective jackets to commercial motorcycle riders operating across the state.

While speaking on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde at the Western Hall, State Secretariat venue of the event, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Musbau Babatunde explains that the over 15,000 reflective jackets freely distributed have necessary security features for ease of identification amongst other security benefits to the riders and for proper economic planning.

He reiterated that the state government is concerned about the safety of commercial motorcycle riders and their passengers, stressing that the exercise will also separate miscreants and criminals disguising as riders from genuine riders.

The Commissioner added that government will soon begin strict enforcement on compliance for the riders.

Also the project facilitator and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on ICT and e-governance, Bayo Akande Jnr, represented by Director ICT and e-governance, Engr Bisola Adabanija disclosed that the distribution of reflective jacket is necessary after issuing identification number to commercial motorcycle riders as part of the state wide residents registration exercise.

In his reaction on behalf of the various unions of commercial motorcycle riders, the state chairman of ACOMORAN, Comrade Solomon Olugbode applauded the initiative and urged riders to be responsive.

Earlier in their separate remarks, the commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade and the Chairman of Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), Retired Major Adesagba Adekoya acknowledge the contributions of riders to the state economy and caution them to comply with the rule of law in their best interest.
