The People’s Democratic Party caucus in the House of Representatives has knocked President Muhammadu Buhari for his decision to ban Twitter operations in the country, saying such decision is in bad taste and will hamper their freedom to interact with their constituents.
The caucus, had earlier staged a walk out from the floor over failed attempt to amend one of the resolutions of the House on the matter.
Led by Honourable Kingsley Chinda, the caucus commended the leader and Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila for speaking up on the issue, especially the setting up of a joint committee to look into it, the group however said a far-reaching step must be taken.
Honourable Kingsley said “Twitter is a platform they have been using with their constituents, serving as some sources of living.”
“If the government has issues with misuse of the Twitter, responsible attempt should be used”.
Therefore, the group demanded that “federal government should unbanned the ban”.
The PDP caucus vowed to continue to tweeting, challenging the Attorney-General to brace up to put all of them in jail.
Honourable Kingsley observed that all attempts to add to the prayers of the House that pending the outcome of interaction between the executive and legislature, the executive should rescind its action.
He promised to bring the issue as a motion, expressing fear that it is mostly certain, such motion will be killed.
“It is a dicison of PDP caucus to continue to tweet and to be ready to present themselves for prosecution”.
The group, however, made it clear that the decision of some members to stay back on the floor does not mean that there was a crack in the fold of the caucus.
